Jaxtr

Just ran across an interesting service. I think Peter Elst also blogged about this.

Here’s how it seems to work. You sign up and wait, or get an invitation from someone who’s already on it (a popular method of getting a buzz going for your product these days) and enter a telephone number. Then you post a link or badge on your website, in your email or whatever:

Call bit101 from your phone!

Now, people click on that and it takes them to another page where they can enter their own phone number. They get a call from Jaxtr, and it connects them to me. So people can call me without having my number.

Cool, but it gets better.

First, this works in any of 29 different countries. So, for whatever it costs you to receive a phone call, you can dial all over the world.

Second, by now you are saying, “OK, I’m hiding my number, but I’m still getting all these random calls to my phone.” This would of course be annoying, but there’s something called privacy shield which sends any calls from any numbers you haven’t approved to voice mail. Not your regular voice mail, but Jaxtr voice mail. You get an email saying you have a voice mail, you log into your Jaxtr account and get a link to a page with a list of all your messages. You listen to them right on the page. If it’s someone you know, you add them to your approved callers list and next time they call, the call goes straight to your phone.

Furthermore, after someone calls you, they get a number at which they can always reach you, so they can add that to their phone book and not have to dial you up through the computer each time.

Sounds pretty good. Let’s try it out. Give me a call!
