I was just browsing the publisher’s page for Foundation ActionScript Animation: Making Things Move to find out when it might be published, and noticed there was a sample chapter link there. And when I clicked on it, I saw there was a sample chapter there. Nobody told me!
The chapter is Chapter 14 on Inverse Kinematics. A popular subject, no doubt. I think a lot of the material there is dependent on knowing stuff from earlier chapters (so you have to buy the book, of course!) but still some pretty neat things in there.
I do want to throw in a disclaimer (since I’ve gotten flak on my use of the term IK before) that I don’t have any formal physics or math training, and have never studied formal IK. The stuff I present here works, is optimized for Flash and will allow you to make pretty damn cool stuff, but I have no guarantees that it is a perfectly accurate physical simulation or that it will align with standard texts on IK.
Oh, by the way, I finally found out (from Amazon) that the book is supposed to be available two weeks from today, on October 24.
Congrats Keith, great chapter — I’ll definitely order the book!
I’ve really been looking forward to this book, and I’m sure I’ll be recomending it once I read through it 🙂
