I said it before, but now, I’m serious. Foundation ActionScript: Making Things Move, is complete.
I finished writing a while back, and spent the last few weeks editing, fixing up some graphics, etc. The last step is to review the PDFs which go to the printer. Got through all the chapter PDFs and I just looked at the PDF for the front matter and gave it my OK. There is nothing more I have to do on it. It goes to China to be printed now, and should hit the stores in a few weeks.
Can’t wait for it!
Congratulations!!!!
I know my credit card is ready
Wooohoooo!
You must be feeling really good right now 🙂 Enjoy it, you deserve it.

OT: Sparkle
Why can’t I post a comment on the sparkle post ? Anyway, just wanted to point out that the demo page is working in Firefox now too, seems like they fixed it. Cheers
Pre-ordered it!
I’ve been a regular visitor to bit-101 for quite awhile. Admire your talents and how much you contribute to the community. Looking forward to reading the book.
Thanks for your great contribution! Just pre-ordered at Amazon. Looking forward to it! Will source file be available?
Did you apply Flash 8 to it?
To answer questions:
Yes, source will be available at the Friends of ED website somewhere or other.
As for Flash 8, that’s a tough one to give a simple answer to. It doesn’t really cover any particular version of Flash per se. It covers the math and physics needed to move things around, and the ActionScript you would use to apply that stuff.
ActionScript itself has not really changed in Flash 8. There are a few new objects, but for most of the stuff I wanted to cover, the code is identical between versions. I do give a few examples of animating a filter and using the BitmapData object in the Rendering Methods chapter, and cover some of the new Matrix stuff in the Matrix chapter. But other than that all of the code can be used in 8 or 2004, and with some minor modifications, even in AS1.
do you touch on classes and extending movieclip in the book?
i know its not necessary for the fundamentals you’re writing about…just curious.
thanks,
