Apple just released a developer preview of the long overdue Java 6.
It’s Leopard only (10.5.1 actually), requires 64-bit (Core 2 Duo or Xeon), and again is a “developer preview” only. To get it, go to the developer site, http://developer.apple.com/ and log in (or sign up (free) and log in) and go to the downloads section.
Leopard 10.5.2 is expected to be released in January at Mac World and should include Java 6.

The old G5 machines are 64 bit as well. It was a bit odd why Apple went from 64 bit to 32 bit (when the Intel switch first happened), then back to 64 bit. I’m more frustrated by the Leopard only restriction. I’m still running Tiger on my dual G5 and I’m perfectly happy with it.
Man! All I can say is, it’s about F@$%@# time! 🙂
Developer release does not contain the rhino js engine which is a pain
