Why?
1. Nobody came anymore. The place was dead. I think the idea of Flash forums is a bit behind the times. I "grew up" at Flashkit and Were-Here. But WH is all but dead, and I can't take FK seriously. Is Ultrashock still around? I think Kirupa and ActionScript.com (org?) still have a heartbeat.
2. The forum got hacked twice. Both times someone sent out a nasty email to hundreds of users, and I had to take my time sending hundreds of apologies.
3. Both times I was persuaded to bring it back. So it was back for a few months. I noticed that despite hardly any traffic to the forum, we were getting a ton of signups. Several dozen in the last half of January. Funny thing though. None of the new users ever posted. They all gave something like www dot cheap-airline-tickets dot com as their home page. Yeaaaaaahhhh.....
4. So I went into MySQL and deleted all zero-post users a few days ago. And I made it so I had to approve all registrations. Since then about a dozen new users. I think one was legit. So for each one I have to go to the site and look them up by name, and check their registration and decide if it's legit or not and either delete them or approve them. Screw that. I'm not spending 20 minutes a day sorting out spam.
Sorry if the forum meant something to you. It had its day in the sun. We're sending it away now to a farm where it can run and play with the other dead forums.
