[...] Last week I was hanging out at FiTC in Hollywood and had a blast. There were some very cool sessions that have made it onto the web already. So after procrastinating for a week or so, I’m finally posting my slides for the Flash and Flex can Hold Hands session that Chafic and I gave. Obviously Flex has a lot to offer for developers and I think it’s a giant leap in the right direction, but now there’s a lack of focus on where designers fit in and why they’re so desperately needed. I’ve heard a lot of complaining around the concept that all Flex applications look the same, and people continue to believe that this argument holds weight. Flex applications have a lot more graphics capability than standard web apps, but I haven’t heard anyone complaining that web applications all look the same. The difference is that designers are part of the process in creating web pages, but for some reason we’ve left them out of our Flex applications. This session gave us an hour to touch the surface of using flash to improve your Flex application design, and hopefully it will help a few more people when it’s floating around the web.
[...] From a developer’s point-of-view, it is interesting to observe the move from highly interactive design environments (i.e. Director, Flash) to a text format and an all-purpose source code editor to design user interfaces. Did we experienced a shift lately where the number of visually-oriented people decreased so significantly that Adobe had no other choice than to go all text? [...]

this is the same presentation mike uses on the flex eseminar.

i'd guess theres a lot of pressure to get apollo released, with little priority devoted to making "pretty" slides ;-)

What most surprised me about this presentation is the total and utter lack of clue when it came to presentation. This is Adobe, for Gods sake, do their slides always look like they were knocked out by the office temp while she was waiting for the coffeee to perculate?

[...] Apollo Development Presentation: While generally out of the realm of CDMo, you can use Flash to build full-fledged cross-platform apps (see the new updater/authorize utility for Native Instruments’ music software, CDMu readers). This presentation makes it very real for us non-programmers here, and it looks truly cool. Custom Flash VJ app, anyone? [...]

Thanks for the great overview of what was going on with Apollo in FiTC. Looks like it will be really neat to make very nice looking applications with a lot of functionality so quickly.

Yeah, Mike was working with a beta copy of Flex Builder 2 for the Mac, so yes, it does exist, yes, there were some jealous mac users, and yes, it did crash once during his presentation. :)
